The Maine Event

Our family summer adventure in Maine is over. Mount Desert Island was a perfect destination. There is much to see and do. Outdoor activities ruled the week and the weather was wonderful for hiking, picnicking, cruising on the water, stargazing, and just relaxing. The lobsters of the area took a serious hit, but I think we left a few behind for others. I want to share a few pictures.

Rick and I zipped down to Augusta to see the Maine State House. It has a very nice balcony with rocking chairs overlooking a beautiful green lawn.

Screenshot of Meredith’s picture of You-Know-Who at the Sunday morning farmers’ market in Bar Harbor. I don’t know, but can’t we all agree to run a brush through our hair before we leave home?

There was no fire, but lots of smoke on pancake morning. Unbeknownst to us, the smoke detectors alerted the fire department. The boys were delighted to see a fire truck and fire fighters, even if the truck could not make the last sharp turn. It was painful  to watch them turn that truck around on the winding one lane road.

Egg Rock Lighthouse.

Picnic on Bar Island. We walked across the land bridge from Bar Harbor to the island at low tide.

The boys on the bridge in Somesville.

Bar Harbor and Bar Island from the top of Cadillac Mountain.

The boys were fascinated with the little bird’s nest on the lower level of the house. They checked it at least once daily.

Back in Bangor to catch our flight home, we took time to check out Stephen King’s home. There was a steady stream of fellow gawkers while we were there. It’s the #1 thing to do in Bangor.
